I hope you and yours are all well and safe. Over the past few weeks, a chunk of our Hunter Wildfires players have had the opportunity to excel at high honours. Our Club could not be prouder of their achievements.

Our Rugby Season & COVID

Due to the extended lockdown announced all Community Sport in the Greater Sydney Area is on hold until July 16 at the very earliest and that includes all forms of Rugby.

That means the following:

  • All Sydney Rugby Union competitions remain suspended indefinitely across all grade – there is little likelihood of rugby being played at all in July.

The silver lining for our Club is that we are Regional NSW with no ‘stay at home’ restrictions, our players continue to train and engage with local Clubs.

Regarding competition, we await direction from Rugby Australia and NSW Rugby on next steps and potential re-commencement dates for Shute Shield fixtures.

We will keep you updated as more information comes to hand.

SRU Board Meeting

Last night the SRU Board met, two points of interest to Hunter Wildfires were:

  1. Recruited Hunter Wildfires players able to participate in Hunter Rugby local competition while Shute Shield on hold
  2. Hunter Wildfires Rugby Club participation in Shute Shield for 2022/2023

Good news all round, the SRU Board approved release of our recruited Hunter Wildfires players to participate in our local Tooheys Cup Premier Competition.

We wish all our recruited and local Hunter Wildfires players the best in strapping on the boots for local clubs in the Tooheys Premier and Womens Cup fixtures whilst the Shute Shield and Jack Scott Cup are on hold.

The Hunter Wildfires Board has been working diligently on the requirements set out by SRU for the 2022/2023 season.  After SRU Board discussion last night they have asked me to make presentation mid next week to finalise the process.

Off the back of communication with SRU General Manager there is a positive outlook to Hunter Wildfires participation in 2022/2023 Shute Shield.

The Hunter Wildfires Board, players & staff are forever grateful for your support and partnership. We hope to see you all very soon at our next home game.
