The NSW Waratahs & Hunter Wildfires Academy is aimed at fast-tracking the development of 17-20 year-old Rugby players through a structured and professional training environment.
“We wanted to create a pathway between Regional NSW and the Waratahs. Through the new Academy, we provide a platform for our youth that will give them the opportunity to play for the Waratahs where they don’t have to go to Sydney to do it.”
Brett Sutherland, President of the Wildfires
The academy will run from 1 November 2021 through to 27 January 2022, and will be based at the University of Newcastle and staffed by several highly qualified and experienced coaches from the local region.
The University of Newcastle boasts first-class training facilities including a High-Performance Gym, meeting rooms and Rugby fields.
The Hunter Wildfires, as the only non-Sydney Shute Shield club, have a unique competitive advantage in being able to form a strong connection with country NSW and are highly motivated to maximise this advantage.
